Minimal Learning Energy Game (Memory)
- In the first round the game is played with cards on which both the translation (NL or ENG), the foreign language (Arabic, Russian, German etc) and an image of the mentioned word are present.
- In the second round, the translation is then omitted, leaving only the word in the foreign language and its image.
- In the final round you will be tested how well you have memorized the words of the foreign language. This only shows the words in the foreign language.
These Minimal Learning Energy Games were finalists in the European competition of game based learning on 3 October in Odense (DK) at the ECGBL2019 conference.
We use this to activate “unconscious learning of foreign languages” supplemented with specific reflection moments via Kahoot.
The learning concept behind it is that minimal learning energy is needed, because it is about words that you already know, without your knowledge. The identical words. An example is 2 cappuccino where you put two fingers in the air: you get 2 cappuccino in both China and Europe.
That way you can very quickly learn a basic vocabulary in the foreign language, with which we transform “unconscious knowledge” into conscious knowledge. Playfully, without effort.
